Cobalt Blue Silver Wave - Tumbled Sea Glass Wire-Wrapped Pendant Necklace (1717)
A beautiful pendant necklace made from dark blue cobalt blue sea glass.
The necklace has been wrapped in silver-plated wire with a sweet little wave. This pendant measures approximately 3cm high. It comes complete with a silver-plated 18" snake chain and gift box. (Item:1717)
The glass has been reshaped and smoothed over decades of tumbling in the waves! Blue glass is rare, particularly at this size. It was commonly used in medicine (or poison!) bottles, which were traditionally made from thinner glass than beer or wine bottles. Therefore is tended to break into smaller fragments in the sea so large pieces like this are hard to find! This particular piece of sea glass has briefly been in a tumbler. Tumblers help to round off any sharp edges and give the sea glass a beautiful smooth surface.
Much of this sea glass dates back to the Victorian era and is known as 'mermaid tears'. When sailors were lost at sea, the mermaids would cry and their tears would wash up on the shore.
