Pebble Seagulls, Antique Pottery Whale & Driftwood - Framed Beach Art Picture (No. 1592)

£45.00

This framed seaside beach collage features two tiny seagulls and a whale, all handmade using antique beach pottery, driftwood, stones and pebbles found washed-up on the beautiful beaches of the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. The pottery I use is often 19th Century antique beach china - mostly Victorian.

A pair of seagulls made from plain pottery sit on a driftwood branch, their little wings are made from fragments of cobalt blue pottery. Below them swimming in the waves is a whale, made from a beautifully patterned piece of pottery. Another piece of pale blue pottery creates rocks in the foreground. Silver plated wire has been used to make the feet and beaks for the seagulls and water spouts for the whale.

The piece comes in a wooden box frame and measures 18cm square. Please choose your frame colour (either white wood or rustic washed wood) using the drop down menu. (Item:1592)

These fragments of patterned pottery and china gather between the rocks and pebbles at low tide. Many of these pieces originate from the 1800’s and 1900’s, sometimes dating back to the Victorian and Regency eras when the nearby town of Kirkcaldy was at the heart of the Scottish pottery industry. Despite being tumbled and smoothed by the Scottish waves for so long, the patterns and colours remain wonderfully vibrant and the transformative power of the sea ensures each fragment is entirely unique.
