A beautiful pair of sea glass earrings, handmade in Scotland from bright cobalt blue Scottish seaglass.

These dangly drop earrings are wire-wrapped in silver-plated wire with tiny Celtic spirals. The hooks are sterling silver. The earrings measure approximately 3.5cm from the top of the hook to the bottom of the sea glass and come complete with a gift box. (Item: 2162)

The sea glass has been reshaped and smoothed over decades of tumbling in the Scottish sea. Blue glass in particular is rare. It was commonly used in medicine (or poison!) bottles, which were traditionally made from thinner glass than beer or wine bottles and is therefore harder to find in larger pieces.

All my jewellery is handmade in Scotland from naturally sea-worn materials. I love to gather these treasures while beach-combing on the beautiful beaches in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife as well as the surrounding beaches of St Andrews, Pittenweem, Crail & St Monans. Much of the sea glass dates back to the Victorian era and is known as 'mermaid tears'. When sailors were lost at sea, the mermaids would cry and their tears would wash up on the shore.
