A beautiful sea glass pendant, handmade in Scotland from cobalt blue Scottish seaglass. The sea glass has been worn smooth after decades of tumbling in the Scottish sea!

The necklace is wire-wrapped with silver-plated wire and features two tiny Celtic spirals. The sea glass is approximately 2.5cm high and comes complete with a silver-plated snake chain and gift box. The chain has an extender on it and can be set to between 16-18 inches. (Item: 2207)

Blue glass is rare, particularly at this size. It was commonly used in medicine (or poison!) bottles, which were traditionally made from thinner glass than beer or wine bottles. It tended to break into smaller fragments in the sea so large pieces like this are hard to find!

All my jewellery is handmade in Scotland from naturally sea-worn materials. I love to gather these treasures while beach-combing on the beautiful beaches in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife as well as the surrounding beaches of St Andrews, Pittenweem, Crail & St Monans. Much of the sea glass dates back to the Victorian era and is known as 'mermaid tears'. When sailors were lost at sea, the mermaids would cry and their tears would wash up on the shore.
