Seal, Isle of May & Bass Rock - Hand-Painted Beach Pebble Art Picture (No. 1389)

Framed beach collage created using antique beach pottery, stones and pebbles found washed-up on the beautiful beaches of the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland.

This whimsical seaside scene features a grey seal, hand-painted onto plain grey beach pottery.  The seal is basking on a piece of sea-worn driftwood. The Isle of May and Bass Rock sit on the horizon, all made from antique beach pottery. The Isle of May is a beautiful nature reserve sitting just off the coast in the Firth of Forth and is famous for its puffins and seals.  Wire wrapping has been used to make tiny silver fish in the sea and a seagull
 hovering over the Bass Rock.

The piece comes in a wooden box frame and measures 18cm square. Please choose your frame colour (either white wood or rustic washed wood) using the drop down menu. (Item: 1389

These fragments of patterned pottery and china gather between the rocks and pebbles at low tide. Many of these pieces originate from the 1800’s and 1900’s, sometimes dating back to the Victorian and Regency eras when the nearby town of Kirkcaldy was at the heart of the Scottish pottery industry. Despite being tumbled and smoothed by the Scottish waves for so long, the patterns and colours remain wonderfully vibrant and the transformative power of the sea ensures each fragment is entirely unique.
