A little wooden mermaid ornament handmade by Susan Evans. Constructed with interlocking pieces, this would be a lovely toy for a child (or adult!) The pieces come apart and can be rearranged with one jutting out to give a 3D effect! The piece has a curved bottom giving it a lovely rocking motion which may also appeal to children. The wood measures 10.5cm long, 5.5cm high and 3cm deep. The mermaid is hand-painted and hand-carved and would look perfect in a coastal themed bathroom or child's nursery! (Item: 2176)

Susan Evans creates toys, sculptures, and automata using all kinds of wood. They are mainly intended for adults but it is a bonus if children like them too. She uses acrylic paint, washes, and coloured inks to decorate her work, and carves using air-dried lime and seals her pieces with a matte water-based varnish or wax polish. After training as a teacher of history she was appointed to a job in Grimsby on England’s east coast. There she began her artistic practice by making personal gifts for friends from materials found on the beach: driftwood, recycled wood, and other found objects.
