Framed Beach Wall Art - Beautiful Blues - Sea Glass, Victorian Pottery, Driftwood, Flotsam and Jetsam
A treasure trove of some of my rarest and most favourite beach-combing finds. These special pieces have been thoughtfully arranged in clean, simple lines reminiscent of museum curiosity cabinets.
Each framed mosaic includes a blend of both man-made and natural items that have been washed ashore on the Fife beaches in Scotland including Victorian antique sea pottery, sea glass, driftwood, shells, pebbles and other found oddments! These precious fragments, collated in a spectrum of blues, have been artfully arranged and preserved behind glass, a little beach-combing adventure for your wall!
I love the contrasting textures of "old" versus "new" and the harmony between manmade and natural elements, all unified by colour.
As with every beach find, each is unique and some of these will be very hard to part with. This collage includes:
- a lovely chunky example of the Willow pattern china featuring part of a tree and one of the birds (I've included a photograph of the original plate - I'm sure you'll recognise it!)
- part of a pottery kiln stilt - these were used in ceramic factories to hold the pottery in the kiln during the firing process
- a piece of plastic with the letters ER - I'd love to know what this is from! It's one of those pieces you almost recognise but can't put your finger on!! (I've included a photo of the day I found it on the beach - 13th May 2024!)
- a mussel shell displayed so you can see the mother of pearl inner surface
- another piece of transfer-ware blue and white pottery with a pretty tree pattern visible
- half a clay marble - clay marbles were popular toys for children in Victorian times
- A really cute piece of blue pottery - the erosion of the fragment has left a blue whale-shape!
- a piece of really beautiful iridescent material with shiny blue and green colours
- soft cornflower blue sea glass with a thin line running through it
- an unidentified piece of white china - possibly part of a cup handle
- a lovely blue shell displayed upside down so you can see the iridescent blue interior.
As you can tell, I feel quite passionate about these pieces. The excitement of finding a special piece, gifted by the sea, never quite leaves me so I hope you enjoy this assortment of beach-combing goodness!
All the pottery included in the mosaics are sea-worn ceramic fragments that wash up on the beautiful beaches in the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland. Much of the pottery dates back to the Victorian era, when ceramic factories threw their 'seconds' into the sea and locals used to cast their broken pottery into the waves for good luck! The rough Scottish seas have gently smoothed these fragments, but the patterns and colors remain vibrant, a testament to the craftsmanship of the time.
I have a range of these rare collections of beach finds in different colours. Each mosaic is priced individually based on the rarity and collectibility of the pieces included.
This original art comes in a white box frame, measuring 17.5cm square and can be hung on the wall or displayed freestanding on a shelf (Item: 4139).
