A gorgeous wooden mermaid sculpture, handmade by Susan Evans. The hand-painted mermaid sits atop a stunning stack of pebbles. The whole thing rests on a beautiful gnarly piece of New Zealand driftwood. The ornament measures 21cm high. The wood base is approximately 12cm at the widest point. The mermaid is hand-painted and hand-carved and would look perfect in a coastal themed bathroom or child's nursery! (Item: 2598)

Susan Evans creates toys, sculptures, and automata using all kinds of wood. They are mainly intended for adults but it is a bonus if children like them too. She uses acrylic paint, washes, and coloured inks to decorate her work, and carves using air-dried lime and seals her pieces with a matte water-based varnish or wax polish. After training as a teacher of history she was appointed to a job in Grimsby on England’s east coast. There she began her artistic practice by making personal gifts for friends from materials found on the beach: driftwood, recycled wood, and other found objects.
