Framed Original Pebble Art - Puffin & Whale - Antique Beach Pottery Picture

A handmade pebble art framed beach collage with a puffin and whale, all created from antique sea pottery, stones and pebbles found washed-up on the beautiful beaches of the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. The pottery I use is often 19th Century antique beach china - mostly Victorian.

This seaside scene features a puffin, hand-painted onto plain beach pottery. Puffins are synonymous with Anstruther and the Isle of May. This stunning nature reserve sits just off the coast in the Firth of Forth. The puffin is perched on a lovely piece of green stoneware. A tiny whale is swimming alongside made from blue beach china. A little piece of blue china sits on the horizon making a little island. Silver plated wire has been used to make the feet for the puffin, water spouts for the whale, a seagull in the sky and a silver fish in the sea.

These fragments of patterned pottery and china gather between the rocks and pebbles at low tide. Many of these pieces originate from the 1800’s and 1900’s, sometimes dating back to the Victorian and Regency eras when the nearby town of Kirkcaldy was at the heart of the Scottish pottery industry. Despite being tumbled and smoothed by the Scottish waves for so long, the patterns and colours remain wonderfully vibrant and the transformative power of the sea ensures each fragment is entirely unique.
