Sea Glass Pendant - Rare Red Flash Glass Celtic Spiral Wire Wrapped Necklace - Scottish Silver Jewellery

A gorgeous red sea glass pendant. Handmade jewellery from Scotland using rare red authentic Scottish flash glass. The colour of red is extremely rare, especially in this size. Flash glass is when a layer of cheaper clear glass was covered with a thin layer of red. This was a more cost effective way of producing coloured glass in the early 1900's. You would not have been able to see the clear layer underneath when the piece was whole but the broken and smoothed glass reveals the lovely layers of white and red. The beach glass has been worn smooth and frosted after decades of tumbling in the Scottish sea! 

The necklace is wire-wrapped with silver-plated wire and features a tiny Celtic spiral. The sea glass itself is approximately 3cm high.

The necklace comes with a silver-plated snake chain with an extender on it which can be worn between 16-18 inches.

All my jewellery is handmade in Scotland from naturally sea-worn materials. I love to gather these treasures while beach-combing on the beautiful beaches in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife as well as the surrounding beaches of St Andrews, Pittenweem, Crail & St Monans. Much of the seaglass dates back to the Victorian era and is known as 'mermaid tears'. When sailors were lost at sea, the mermaids would cry and their tears would wash up on the shore.
